It's an unlikely combination of two updates that has worked wonders on my Win7 PCs. My fix was Solution 1-- downloaded and ran the 8 KB3XXXXXX patches listed at the top of the article, rebooting between patches as prompted. AVI Method-1 worked fine. I would not suggest an upgrade to windows 10.
