That's the rule. 64-bit is preferable, but it won't work if your processor is 32-bit. While you’re free to upgrade a PC’s hardware components or replace a failing hard drive, you can’t move your OEM copy to a new computer. Windows licenses only apply to one computer at a time. I figured that, instead of answering the question 1000 times, I'll answer it once right here.

I was always afraid that because I have the windows oem install disk, I wouldnt be able to switch motherboards without rebuying windows.
