The combination of the the two updates recommended here, and the "Windows Update Diagnostic" finally allowed me to run the normal automatic Windows Update. Solution 1 worked for me. I'm a senior & although I feel I can do a lot more than most tutorials that assume I need to learn how to log on or search the web, I'm Win 7 updated with the rollup, but stalled on updating further after everything was done, ( yes I left it running for a couple of hours) so I left it overnight, The progress bar keeps showing progress animation which makes you think that Windows Update is doing something but even after waiting for hours, nothing happens. NOTE: You may need to temporary stop Windows Update service before installing above mentioned updates. I can't believe after I did the above, the dam thing took updates in about 15 mins.
