The Microsoft download site says to go back to the laptop manufacturer if Windows was pre-loaded, and therefore does not accept the product key written on the computer. Then go into Windows partition manager, purge the recovery partition (as you have backed up or got the driver disk and an OS disk - retail, you won't need the multi-GB make sure it has a drive letter as well. But if you have a laptop, you almost certainly can't.
