It will either hang, or BSOD. I'm guessing I have an MBR problem? Thank you Bill. I did a system restore to a point that was made a week ago, but nothing. I went to plug it back into my computer, and now my computer no longer reads it. I tested it again and realized that it was the external hard drive that was preventing Windows from loading properly.

I tried to burn a disc again and I get "The Attempt to burn a disc failed. Run Sfc SO I want to ask if anyone has found a soloution to this problem besides the obvious format which I do not want to do atm.

Hopefully one of the methods mentioned above will get you to a state where you don't have to disconnect your USB hard drive in order to boot Windows properly. Tonight I even tried it on my gf's pc and it still didn't work. And extreme power anomalies banging on your PSU is not good either.
